Elfnote Ars Magna: how it combos, and how to beat it

By YGO Lab5 min read

The October 19, 2026 list replaces Tinia, Crystal Wing and Dawn Dragster with a Fortuna bridge and a new finish. Elfnote, Power Patron and Ars Magna build Mediclius, Photon Lord and Dragite, with different endings when the opening or a hand trap changes the route.

How Elfnote wins

Elfnote Lucina supplies the first body and search. Power Patron connects it to the Extra Deck; Ars Magna supplies Level 8 monsters, removal and battle modifiers. Mediclius the Extraordinary Power Patron is the shared destination.

The center Main Monster Zone controls several of the deck's plays:

  • Lucina and Fortuna Special Summon themselves from the hand into the center.
  • Regina summons another Elfnote from the Deck when she enters the center.
  • Patron raises the center monster's Level by 3, once per turn.
  • June Pride needs the center for its tag-out; Rhapsodia needs a center monster for its attack restriction.

Tinia, Crystal Wing and Dawn Dragster are Forbidden under the October 19 list. The Rival's current list and new recordings do not use them. Droll & Lock Bird is at one copy.

The Lucina bridge

The unimpeded opening has five stages. The guide's practice recording supplies the exact materials, zones and effect choices.

  1. Lucina searches Patron. Normal Summon Patron, then make Strelitzia with them; Patron searches Fortuna. Hold Strelitzia's revival.
  2. Fortuna summons into the empty center and places Rhapsodia. Link Fortuna and Strelitzia into Purification, which searches Theorealize Medius. It summons itself and searches Past Lull; Past Lull summons Medius, which adds Vidolium.
  3. Purification and Medius make Haggard Lizardose. Haggard banishes the GY Purification; Theorealize Medius searches the first Ars Magna. The Ars Magna searches and summons lead to Mediclius and two Level 8 monsters, then Photon Lord.
  4. Vidolium revives Patron and searches Junoldo. Rhapsodia revives Fortuna; Patron's Level boost makes June Pride. June brings Regina from the Deck and Strelitzia from the GY. Regina summons another Lucina. Regina and Lucina make I:P.
  5. Strelitzia now revives Patron, declining its Level reduction. Junoldo draws and recovers Regina. Level 7 Strelitzia and Level 1 Patron make Dragite. Haggard stays in the GY to meet Dragite's WATER condition.

An ordinary Synchro Summon does not lock the deck. A face-up, non-negated Patron permits only Synchros from the Extra Deck while it remains. Welcome Home's summon and Strelitzia's revival each impose a turn-long Synchro restriction. That is why the Link and Xyz plays precede the revival.

What the board does on your turn

  • Mediclius has effects according to the monsters it points to. Two give protection from opposing activated effects; three allow its opponent-turn banish of itself and the opposing field. Removing a pointed body can change those conditions.
  • Photon Lord detaches a material to negate a monster-effect activation. The Ars Magna materials in this list do not grant its additional destruction clause.
  • Dragite negates a Spell/Trap activation or effect while a WATER monster remains in its controller's GY. Haggard supplies that condition.
  • I:P Link Summons on the opponent's Main Phase, usually making S:P. S:P's on-summon banish requires Extra Deck material, while its other banish is temporary and responds to an opposing activation.
  • Theorealize Medius can become Diactorus after a face-up monster is banished. Diactorus's negate needs three different controlled Monster Types and an activation on the field.
  • Rhapsodia sends a monster to revive a different-original-Attribute Elfnote. With a Synchro present, it can then negate a face-up opposing card's effects for the turn. This is different from negating any activation.

Where interaction matters

InteractionThe decision it creates
Ash, Veiler or Imperm on LucinaStops the first search. Lucina's surviving body can still pair with a separate Medius or Treasure/Nervedo push. The practice course includes a complete Treasure recovery through Ash.
Droll after the first addStops further Deck additions, but permits placements and summons. June can reach Fortuna for Rhapsodia. The old cheap Crystal/Dragster ending is unavailable.
FuwalosCharges Deck and Extra Deck summons. With a held Ars Magna starter, a two-draw stop can keep Purification, Theorealize Medius and the WIND Ars Magna rather than making Photon. Other hands have different costs.
PuruliaCharges hand summons and Normal Summons. Regina with an Elfnote cost can summon from the Deck after her own hand summon. Count the particular route's hand summons.
Nibiru before Photon LordThe deck needs saved resources and a real recovery payment. Mediclius may survive with two occupied arrows, while its other monsters can still be Tributed. A Token cannot pay Medius's successful return-to-Deck condition.

An interruption's value depends on the remaining hand, effect uses and restrictions. These branches show legal outcomes for stated hands; they do not prove that one hand-trap timing defeats every opening.

Going second and the next turn

Finite's hand effect can triple Mediclius's original ATK to 9000. Unification and Separation's hand effect can grant up to three attacks on monsters. Mediclius, pointing at a monster, can negate the current face-up opposing monsters and halve their ATK. The effects must actually resolve, and the remaining legal attacks must deal enough damage.

A 9000 Mediclius attacking one 3000 monster halved to 1500 deals 7500, short of 8000. S:P's on-summon effect also prevents direct attacks for that turn. Replacing S:P does not remove that restriction.

Regina, the GY Medius, recurring Elfnote Spells/Traps and banished Ars Magna monsters support later turns. The Medius opening spends Patron's boost earlier than the Lucina route, so it does not automatically inherit the same I:P finish.

Practice against Elfnote

The Rival reads The Elfnote Ars Magna Guide, an original YGO Lab guide for this list. Seven newly recorded engine branches cover Lucina, Medius, Citrinitas with a spare monster, drawn Fortuna, Ash recovery, Droll and a conditional Fuwalos stop. The Rival replans when the recorded conditions no longer match.

  • Going second, practice against the new board's actual negation and zone conditions.
  • Going first, practice through Ash, Imperm, Nibiru, Droll and Fuwalos.
  • To drill a specific interruption, record your own combo and practice its interrupted branch.

The current list has 40 Main, 15 Extra and 15 Side cards. The Side Deck is not in play during a game.

Questions

What is the main Elfnote combo after the October banlist?

Lucina searches Patron; Strelitzia's Patron search reaches Fortuna, which places Rhapsodia. Purification, Theorealize Medius and Ars Magna lead to Mediclius and Photon Lord. The unimpeded Lucina finish adds I:P and Dragite, with Haggard in the GY for Dragite's WATER condition.

Why does the center Main Monster Zone matter?

Lucina and Fortuna summon themselves into it, Regina's Deck summon requires her to enter it, and Patron boosts the monster in it. June's tag-out and Rhapsodia's attack restriction also depend on the center.

Does Nibiru work against Elfnote now?

It can matter before Photon Lord's monster negate is established. The result depends on saved extenders and whether Mediclius's protection is live. The old summon-five Crystal Wing line is no longer legal.

Does the guide cover hand traps?

Yes. The recorded branches include Ash, Droll and a two-draw Fuwalos stop with a held Ars Magna starter. The lessons also explain Purulia, Nibiru, spot negation and changed restrictions.

Can I practice against this list online?

Yes. YGO Lab offers the current Elfnote Ars Magna Rival in the browser, on phone or desktop. Every account gets a free duel against it each week, with no credit card.
